UITP is pleased to announce that the 2018 edition of the International Rail Conference and SITCE – combined for the first time in Asia – has been a huge success.

The event, held in partnership with The Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore saw 2018’s edition focus on rail by combining with UITP’s International Rail Conference under the theme ‘People at the Heart of Digital Railways’.

Showing UITP’s global reach as a worldwide association, participants in the International Rail Conference and SITCE came from as far and wide as Australia, Canada and the United States to Ireland, Israel and Brazil.

During the event our UITP President Pere Calvet spent time touring the exhibition with our honourable guest, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Transport Minister of Singapore.

As UITP is always interested in participating in discussions relevant to advancing the public transport sector, our Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani participated in Asia-Pacific Climate Week during our time in Singapore.

Mohamed joined other public transport stakeholders to discuss climate change and the environment during the transportation activities at this world-renowned event.

“Discussions on combating climate change are vitally important, and I was pleased to speak at and participate in a panel session during the transportation activities of Asia-Pacific Climate Week. What our sector must keep in mind is to continue addressing congestion, road safety and accessibility…technology can’t be the only solution: ’a clean traffic jam is still a traffic jam’. I look forward to continue making the case for more public transport, walking and cycling, as our industry tackles these issues together”, said Mohamed Mezghani, UITP Secretary General.
