Smart Maintenance and the Rail Traveller Experience

SMaRTE works on understanding the primary factors that leads a passenger to choose the rail transport (or an alternative) for a travel. An experience map, some workshops for both passengers and rail stakeholders, and a collection of surveys will be carried out in order to better comprehend these factors. New knowledge will drive towards a final proposition of new measures for the rail sector to improve its attractiveness.

Moreover, SMaRTE provides the methodology for the latest implementation of a Condition Based Maintenance (onwards CBM) system appropriate and efficient for the railway system. This will allow a tailored maintenance regarding the remaining life of key components. This will also contribute to reduce costs and to improve both reliability and availability. Knowledge and experience from other sectors will be extracted and new scientific methods for handling data and setting up architectures and intelligent systems to process data will be developed.

UITP contributes to the evaluation and mapping of passengers` experiences and the organisation of focus groups (passengers and rail stakeholders). In a nutshell, UITP will bring in the perspective of the transport operators to make the rail system more attractive.

SMaRTE is coordiated by University of Leeds.
