Webinar on electric bus procurement in India

UITP India is conducting a webinar to discuss electric bus procurement and performance evaluation in Indian cities. The webinar will launch our recently concluded research reports on electric bus procurement and performance evaluation in India followed by a panel discussion with key actors involved in advancing electric buses in India.

Introduction to the webinar

UITP India and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF) have an ongoing partnership to advance clean public transportation in India through research, advocacy and capacity building activities.

We have recently developed two reports to support the accelerated deployment of electric buses in India:

Electric Bus Procurement under FAME II- Lessons Learnt and Recommendations for Phase-II: This report provides a comprehensive overview of the electric bus procurement across India supported by the FAME II financial incentives. We identify the key lessons learnt through the process and offer specific recommendations towards developing the overall ecosystem for electric bus procurement in India. The report provides stakeholder specific insights to policy-makers designing financial incentives, authorities contracting out e-buses and the service providers bidding for electric bus tenders.

Framework for Performance Evaluation of Electric Buses in India: Even as more electric buses are being deployed, it is important to evaluate the performance of buses that are already deployed to improve their operational performance and inform our future procurement choices. This report fills in the gap in the available literature to provide guidance to contracting authorities and service providers deploying e-buses to evaluate their performance across the alternative vehicle and charging technologies, business models and operating conditions.

We will present the key findings from these two reports and follow it up with a panel discussion to discuss the way forward to improve the ecosystem for e-bus deployment in India.
