UITP in partnership with San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is organizing a workshop on Zero Emission buses focusing on electric buses, trolley buses and fuel cell buses. The workshop will cover various topics ranging from bus technologies, Electric Bus Rapid Transit system, Depot infrastructure and Charging infrastructure.
Many cities in North America region are inducting electric buses and fuel cell buses. As of September 2022, there are 5,480 full-size battery-electric and fuel-cell electric transit buses have been funded, ordered, and/or delivered within the United States and Canada. In June 2023, the US Department of Transportation has sanctioned $1.7 billion to 46 states and territories to fund the acquisition of 1,700 buses, over half of which will be zero-emission models.
There were more than 65 trolley bus systems have existed in the U.S. at one time or another. There are many cities which are still operating a fleet of trolley buses system in North America
