About

The Economic Outlook of the Public Transport Sector: What is it about?

Time for a temperature check!

Launched in 2020, the ‘Economic Outlook 2024’ survey sets out to gauge the fiscal health and strategic priorities of transport companies and authorities worldwide. This biannual exercise explores the financial pulse of public transport entities, providing insights into their anticipated performance and objectives for the upcoming year based on their yearly budgetary allocations. This edition will take a deep-dive on the trends focused on fare policy and fare affordability deployed across the sector.

These webinars will provide a comprehensive overview of the 2024 trends in English, which will cater to an international audience interested in global trends and comparisons.

Structural Components

The survey is structured into several key sections, each focusing on distinct facets of public transport management and strategy:

  1. Demand/Ridership Forecast
  2. Forecast Revenues/Costs
  3. Fares and Fare Policy
  4. Infrastructure and Future Investments

Objectives and Insights

The primary objective of the Economic Outlook 2024 survey is to provide transport authorities and companies with a comprehensive overview of the sectors’ trends.

Following the completion of the 2024 edition, UITP will organise a series of webinars aimed at disseminating key findings and insights gathered from this exercise.
