It is safe to say that the arrival of automated vehicles has stirred up the transport sector.
The introduction of driverless, or automated vehicles (AVs), represents a unique opportunity for a fundamental change in urban mobility, as explained in the UITP Policy Brief on AVs.
But with great technology, also come great questions. What are the technical challenges we still have to solve before AVs truly become a reality? How do we make sure the introduction of AVs does not just result in more traffic on our roads? And - perhaps the most pressing question - how can automated vehicles actually contribute to better mobility and healthier cities?
To address these questions, UITP in 2018 launched the SPACE (Shared Personalised Automated Connected vEhicles) project. SPACE aims to put public transport at the heart of the automated mobility revolution and help build a combined transport ecosystem.
Now, for the first time, UITP organises the Automated Mobility Conference on 24 October in Brussels. This one-day event is designed to keep you up-to-date with the latest developments in AVs, and discuss the challenges still ahead of us. Together with leading international experts from across the sector, we will explore how fleets of shared automated vehicles can be integrated into public transport to offer an upgraded urban mobility system with better mobility options for all.
The event will consist of three sessions:
- Technical challenges of integrating AV services in public transport operations and how to solve them;
- Sharing international experiences of running AV pilots and their challenges;
- Public acceptance of AV - from customers to other road users.
The Conference will welcome Yann Leriche, CEO of Transdev North America and Head of the B2C Business Line and Autonomous Transportation Systems of Transdev, as keynote speaker. You can find the full speaker list here.
During the Conference, you will get the chance to learn from the best. Discover the AV strategy of leading global cities, or get an exclusive insight into running AV initiatives worldwide.
