UITP is pleased to announce our partnership with the UNFCCC and the International Union of Railways (UIC) - to raise awareness of sustainable transport and climate action at COP24 (Katowice, 3-14 December 2018).

This will be the second year in a row that we will partner with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change during COP24 and beyond, to promote sustainable public transport options as one of the solutions to reducing emissions.

UITP and UIC are the only transport associations to partner in this way with the UNFCCC.

As part of our partnership, UITP and UIC contributed towards an article with the UNFCCC, published on their website – another great achievement for UITP.

A promotional campaign, featuring hanging cards with a climate action message, will be placed on public transport modes in the city of Katowice during COP24.

During COP24 we will participate in the dedicated Transport Day, led by the European Commission’s CIVITAS Initiative, SLoCaT on behalf of the PPMC, UITP, Polis and Rupprecht Consult and hosted and supported the City of Katowice.

This year’s Transport Day will highlight the strong role of cities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality by implementing measures in the transport sector. It will showcase best practice examples from around the globe, with a range of presentation from various EU cities involved in the European Commission-funded CIVITAS Initiative.
