It’s official! The list of finalists for the 2019 UITP Awards has been announced.
Acknowledging ambitious and innovative public transport projects that bring the sector closer to reaching the ambitious goal of increasing its market share, the UITP Awards 2019 has been a great success, with hundreds of projects submitted.
An international jury of public transport experts and UITP had the difficult task of assessing and scoring these projects. Gauging from the applications submitted, the work being done should make us all very proud to be a part of this sector. UITP Awards juror and Monash University Professor Graham Currie saw “fantastic reimagining of what we can do with public transport for cities”. Together with his co-jurors, he celebrated the diversity of ideas submitted from all over the world. To put it in the words of Tom Wright, UITP Awards juror and President and Chief Executive Officer of Regional Plan Association (RPA), “nobody has a monopoly on creativity, innovation and inspiration”.
The selection process aimed at rewarding and recognising ambitious projects implemented in the last two years and fulfilling three key dimensions: innovation, contribution and transferability. “It is not just about the application of new technologies, but also about a different way of approaching existing public transport challenges”, explained Petra Mollet, UITP Awards juror and Vice-President Strategic and International Programs at the American Public Transport Association.
From the hundreds of applications received, 31 projects were selected as finalists, falling under eight different categories: Design Processes and Products; Diversity and Inclusion; Marketing Campaign; Multimodal Integration; Operational and Technological Excellence; Public and Urban Transport Strategy; Smart Funding, Financing and Business Models; Young Researchers.
