Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Mass Public Transport

After a year-long research study, UITP Asia-Pacific Centre for Transport Excellence launched a 140-page publication on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Mass Public Transport at the UITP Singapore New Year Reception (31 January 2019).

The study was conducted under a joint-funded research programme between International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and Land Transport Authority (LTA), and aimed to demystify AI, raise awareness in the public transport sector by landscape analysis and provide insights to organisations who may be considering AI-powered solutions.

We deeply thank the over 100 experts worldwide who contributed to the collection of information:

  • Public transport professionals shared first-hand data on their experience with AI-powered solutions. From the deployment of chatbots to state-of-the-art research on corrective measures for optimised bus/rail operations to the use of mobility data to predict demand, AI is fast gaining traction in many aspects of the public transport sector.
  • AI leaders joined public transport stakeholders during two ideation workshops to outline what the future might hold for AI in public transport systems. In the next 5 years, AI is expected to be embedded in most customer touchpoints, make on-demand public transport services a reality and transform the safety and security management of public transport systems.
  • A series of blog articles published throughout the project showcased experts’ perspectives on AI in public transport.

Find out about the research findings in the newly released publication, available for purchase at a starting price of 100 euros for UITP members and 200 euros for non-members (a discount is available for multiple purchases).
