Today marks one week until EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2019 kicks off!

Every year, EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK aims to improve public health and quality of life through promoting clean mobility and sustainable urban transport. This year’s theme is ‘Walk With Us!’, highlighting safe walking and cycling and the ways active mobility can benefit our health, the environment, and bank balances.

One of the best things about EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK? Everyone is welcome to register a Mobility Action and show their commitment to clean and sustainable urban transport and healthier cities. So far, already 666 actions by 49 countries have been registered: from a true Bike Carnival in Stockholm, to an Ecological Treasure Hunt across Italy - sustainable and active mobility comes in many forms.

Of course, UITP also takes part in EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK! During the event, we will shine the spotlight once more on our #MobilityOnTop Campaign, which was launched in light of the European elections last May. In our Mobility Manifesto, we called on EU-decision makers to lead with public transport by placing mobility on top of the agenda.

Another campaign highlighted during the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK is the Breathable Cities World Campaign. Launched by Y4PT, this initiative is aimed at measuring people’s exposure to and inhalation of air pollutants through different modes of transport, in order to estimate the impact on human health. You can find more information about this important initiative here.

Like every year, one of the highlights of EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK is car-free-day, this year taking place on 20 September. On this one day a year, cities close their off their roads to cars and the streets are given back to pedestrians. In many cities, public transport operators or authorities have actions planned, such as making public transport free for one day. UITP strongly encourages this initiative, and is therefore one of the proud supporting organisations of World Car Free Day Summit, taking place in London (19-21 September).

It is no coincidence that EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK starts on the day when UITP will launch its brand new Climate Action plan! Aimed at decision makers, this new UITP campaign will highlight the important role walking, cycling and public transport play in fighting climate change. More info will be released soon, so stay tuned!

EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK will officially kick-off on 16 September in the Arts-Loi area, in Brussels. Come and find us at the UITP booth between 09:00 and 14:00!

Do you also want to contribute to cleaner, more liveable cities? It’s not too late to register your action for this year’s most sustainable mobility week!
