This week, UITP is happy to announce its partnership with Arab World (Institut du Monde Arabe) in Paris. Arab World organises events and workshops related to Arabic culture, including this week’s executive workshop on urban transport in Arab cities. This invitation-only event gathers top managers in France and nearby countries that are interested by or active in public transport in Arab cities.

UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani has been invited to speak in the first session on the challenges of urban transport in Arab cities.

“The Arab world is witnessing a rapid urbanisation, which raises challenges, but also opens important opportunities. In this context, the development of public transport is key for Arab cities to increase their economic growth, quality of life and global appeal” said Mohamed Mezghani, UITP Secretary General.

In the context of this week’s event at Arab World, UITP is also pleased to highlight the MENA Transport Report 2017, which has been prepared by the UITP MENA Centre for Transport Excellence. This annual Report provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the public transport landscape in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region.

Covering all modes of public transport, the MENA Transport Report 2017 features 28 cities across 14 MENA countries. It summarises national and urban public transport stakeholders, strategies and policies, ongoing projects, existing services, operators and fares, modal shares as well as urban challenges and innovative solutions.
