UITP's exciting new Global Summit plans: Putting the people who make public transport first

The ways in which we meet and interact have changed, and the world is reflecting on what this means in the times to come.

As the only association of our kind, it’s important for UITP to recognise these changes going forward for our members, employees, and the entire public transport sector.

Looking to the future of the UITP Global Public Transport Summit, we believe that refocusing our activities will bring a better balance to our approach of putting people first.

Following conversations and consultation with the membership, we have decided to bring the sector together on a more regular basis by making the Summit an annual gathering.

As our sector rebuilds in the times ahead, we are increasing the interaction, services and involvement of our members.

People are at the heart of public transport and those who make up our sector should lead any new direction…

Starting from 2025, the Summit will take place every year…But this is only the beginning of the story.

The UITP Summit is the largest event of its kind dedicated to urban mobility and is the major gathering in the public transport calendar, as a time to think, share ideas and re-imagine our sector.

By providing a more regular gathering, we will have the opportunity to debate, witness and stay up to date with the latest trends and innovations, explore new markets together and network.

We know that by making these exciting changes, our annual gathering will become a festival of public transport not to be missed!

The next edition is still firmly in place with Barcelona as our host city (4-7 June 2023) and UITP is excited to work alongside our local host, FGC, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya. 

The new format for our Summit will see a fixed location chosen in the same city for two biennial editions, beginning with the 2025 edition.

This will rotate with a different region of the world hosting during the alternate year.

We will accompany this new Summit format with many other exciting and important events, focused on our regional presence, Academy programme, webinars, and partner events.

With these changes, we are bringing you the opportunity to become involved from the very start.

We are introducing the first opportunity to be part of this new change with open tender for the 2025 and 2027 editions to any European city – in the new format, the same city will host both editions.

Please provide first expression of interest by 28 January 2022. 

Hosting the UITP Summit is an exciting moment for our local host, when the world of public transport descends upon their city…
