Public transport for me, for you, for all

We work continually to serve, as well as represent, the entire public transport market.

The PT4ME campaign is meant to spread awareness and advocate for an inclusive public transport to better serve our women passengers, as well as to promote the benefits of a diverse workforce comprised of women as well as men, in efforts to advance public transport.

2018 - Women as passengers

UITP and the World Bank have partnered up to shed light on the needs of women as public transport users. The message is simple: make public transport accessible for all.

"Transport should not be gender neutral. Designing transport systems without gender data can be a deterrent to inclusion and become an obstacle for gender equality in many cities around the world." - Karla González, Manager for Transportation and lead of the Gender agenda in the Transport Practice at the World Bank

Last year, 241 members and partners shared the video in their stations and vehicles, as well as on their social media networks! This campaign is one of many steps UITP and the World Bank are taking to ensure accessibility for all public transport users. 

Together we can be the voice that will help women from all over the world have access to safe public transport environments in line with SDG 5.

As the PT4ME campaign continues to spread, we are directly working to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 (in particular) to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. According to UN Women, "investing in public transportation benefits women, who rely on public transport more than men do." 

 

2019- Women as workers

Despite growing initiatives to include more women in our sector—from front line staff to upper management and city leaders—we still have much work to do to improve our current gender balance. 

In collaboration with the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF), we have released joint recommendations for the public transport sector to better implement a more inclusive workforce for women.
